During the last fiscal year, over 750 families in the Meramec Region received monthly rental assistance, which totaled over $2.7 million. Payments are made directly to landlords on behalf of families who qualified for rental assistance programs .... PHA chairman is Washington County Presiding Commissioner Robert Reed; vice chairman is Crawford County Presiding Commissioner Ed W'orley and secretary-treasurer is Dent County Presiding Commissioner Jim Biggs. In other business, the board learned that the PHA is cur, rently serving 697 families, 301 of which are disabled and/or elderly. Housing Program Manager Linda Hollandsworth reported that the disabled and elderly have an average annual income of $9,508 per year. Hollandsworth said the PHA is 95 percent leased for the month and for the year to date, which began Oct. 1, 2003. The PHA has paid rents totaling an average of $190,733 each of the last four months. Housing assistance is pro- vided to very low income resi- dents who meet federal income criteria and other eligibility requirements. MRPC takes applications for rental assistance on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its office at 4 Industrial Drive in St. James. Persons in Washington County can meet with housing staff and com- plete applications from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays at the Washington County Library, 235 E. High St. in Potosi.
