The Cuba Free Press June 12, 2003 --5A Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce The Cuba Chamber of Commerce met at Country Kitchen at noon May 19. The aeeting was called to order by President Mehl with the pledge to the flag and a prayer led by Dr. Bill Lynch. included Sue Reed and Faye from Super 8, Ron Schik and Joan King from the American Red Cross. The minutes of the April meeting were and Treasurer Wilma Cline gave financial report. Cline also gave the report on the banquet. Everyone thanked for all the work that they done and those who donated and at the silent auction. Norma Bretz reported reported that Tourism came through Cuba. met them at Wagon Wheel Motel. reporter was with them, but the man could not get here. He will later this year. The Visitor Center is open and has busy getting everything in place. is welcome to visit. The ribbon- cutting and open house will take place on 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. Invitations have sent. We hope those who want to the center will come by and be a part activities. Joan King and the American Red want you to know that the Cuba has been added to the disaster list. has been in the area working very to help those who are in need. : Les Murdock reminded us again about our safety kits ready. He said how they are for all of us. They take up much room and can be a when we need them. The Chamber will be working the gate on Saturday night at the Crawford County Fair this year. Kevin Britton will be chairman for this. He needs help from many members. Our speaker was Sandra Peterson, and IRS senior tax specialist and CPA. She told us that by 2008, 80 percent of all taxes will be paid electronically and math errors are corrected as date entered. Pay quarterly and within 24 hours after putting in tax information you will get a reply. Forms can be obtained from the IRS webpage. You can get help with your taxes at any time. She explained the use of your home in your business and double-dipping. Peterson stayed after the meeting so that she could answer many questions from members. Volunteers who worked in the Chamber Visitor Office this month were Betty Smith, Lucy Bates, Lynda Weingart, Pat Cookson, Bette Price, Carol Ottinger, Ronnie Sumner, Becky Haferkamp, Nikki Smith and Bob Bretz. The office could not be run without the help of HEATHER WILSON volunteers. The Chamber will continue to use volunteers at the new center. The new center is open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can make a call to the office at 573-885-2531 or 1- 877-212-8429. The Chamber has 2003 Missouri Tourism books and we encourage you to stop by and get yours. Information has been coming in from throughout the United States. If you are planning your vacation you may want to come by and check out the information that we have. The Chamber has a worldwide Chamber Directory so we can look up phone num- bers and addresses for you. Survival information sheets can also be picked up in the office. Please let us know of any event that is being planned so it can be placed on the Chamber&apos;s calendar of events. We meet the third Monday of each month. This month we will be meeting at noon June 16 at Country Kitchen. The Crawford County Fair Queen Candidates will be our guests.
