The band, made up of high school and college students, met in Springfield, Missouri where they rehearsed and then traveled to the Lions Club International Convention in Denver, Colorado. Over 65,000 Lions from around the world and bands from all across the United States coverged on Denver in July for the convention. Mallory was the first Cuba High School student to be spon- sored by the Cuba Lions Club and asked to participate as a member of the Missouri Lions Band. Mallory was invited to attend the August program and business meeting of the Cuba Lions Club and tell about her trip. At the meeting, she presented an interesting, well prepared program about her experience as a Missouri Lions band member. The Missouri Lions Band finished second in the band competition, behind first place Mississippi. When asked if she thought the trip was worth while and if she would do it again, she answered, "Oh yes, it was great and I would love to do it again!" Mallory's presentation included photos and collectable pins that she traded for during the convention. As she conclud- ed her presentation, she thanked the Cuba Lions Club for sponsoring her and read a poem she had written to the Cuba Lions which follows. Our first Denver supper was at Casa Bonitas, Where we met some of our competition Michigan Band senioritas. On Monday we drove for two more hours, To go and visit those Rocky Mountains of ours. At Breckenridge we rode the skylift up to the mountain top, The lift shook in the wind and I thought it would drop. There was some snow on those hills, Snow in July! what a thrill. On Tuesday we marched I first arrived in Springfield for two nights and three days, Our newly aquired group didn't know that International Lions we could amaze. When I tried on my uniform pants I couldn't believe my eyes, For my pants were really big and of clown size. We practiced our music for hour upon hour, At first we sometimes looked and sounded quite sour. We finally finished with rehearsals all day, Then loaded the buses and were on our way. When Shannon went to count us we messed with her head, We shouted out numbers like five, seven and ten. in the International Lions Parade. We were given six pins to give and to trade. I traded my pins and ended up with 22. Our band came out with Japanese smocks of red, yellow and blue. On Wednesday we went to Six Flags Elitch Garden and it was very small, But we rode all the rides and had fun all in all. Thursday night we were tired and all funned out, And we finally let Shannon count. I met lots of people that I still talk to, And I only got to go there because of all of you!
